Dec 25 Away for a week

Erin and I are heading out of town for a week to relax with her family. I wish all of my friends and family a very warm holiday (whichever you celebrate) and a happy new year!

Dec 19 engaged!

As of approximately 8:30 am this morning, Erin and I are engaged to be married!

How did I do it? Well…it wasn’t quite as dramatic as I had planned it out to be in my head, but here you go.

I’m pretty use to the consistent and harrassing marriage comments that I receive from friends and family. And to be honest, after dating Erin for close to six years, I know that it’s finally time to make it happen.

I’ve been doing a lot of diamond research over the past few months, slowly piecing together an mental picture of what I wanted for Erin. Once I knew what I wanted, I called up a family jeweler out on the east coast. I ordered the ring, and I was ready to go. What I had planned for was the amount of time I spent after the order wondering, “where the hell is that thing?” It finally arrived at my office on Wednesday afternoon. I plucked it in my bag and ran home.

Now that I had the ring, I was faced with the much more challenging part: popping the question. The plan was to take Erin back to Iowa City, the city were we first met, and propose to her over a tasty meal and a few bottles of wine. Good plan, but I was too anxious and couldn’t wait all weekend. I woke up around 6 AM, grabbed the ring from it’s hiding place, and waited in bed for her to wake up. When she woke up, she had this big, bright smile that made me so happy. I knew that it was time, I pulled it out, and she said yes.

One smile, that’s all it took.

Dec 9 i love my (wireless) neighbors

erin and i are having the condo painted this week. i factored time vs. money, and it makes a lot of sense for us to have someone else do it. besides, you should have seen our last attempt at painting the place….not pretty.

so, our place is upside down right now. everything has been shoved/piled together in the center of each room. the upside is that we’ll have a great looking place in a few more days.

i wanted to send off a few emails tonight before i hit the sack, but our place is ‘unplugged’. i fired up my laptop out of speculation that one of our neighbors might have an access point for me to hop onto….and it worked! i did a quick search for access points with out-of-the-box settings and found one within 30 seconds. awesome :)

Dec 3 got time you can spare?

i’ve been encountering a lot of situations lately in which i think “wait, didn’t this just happen?” events like thanksgiving, the change in season from fall to winter, performance reviews at work, etc. is anyone else feeling the same way?
