me, blogging, more
i recently decided that while i like twitter in many ways, i just don’t like it that much. here are a couple issues i have:
1) when i tweet, i think a slight bit about how others may read into what i’m saying. i don’t like that. i don’t know how other people that follow me are subscribed to receive messages (whether via sms, or im, or not all). regardless, there’s a good chance that i’ll write something totally important to me, but not at all relevant to anyone else…and then i think wait, how will other people read this? that’s pretty dumb. more my issue than twitter, but hey, i’m just outlining a couple things here.
2) i have no beef at all with their scalability issues - it’s a free service and they can tend to their garden however they like. despite the downtime, people love it and support it. i’m happy to see this love for the service, it’s a really big deal to get to this point with a product. but the downtime does cause issues in my usage. for example, i find that an rss feed of my friends tweets is the most useful way for me to use twitter. i don’t have notifications enabled, and it’s tough to hit the web site and try to catch up on stuff (especially when pagination is disabled). i don’t think the feed has worked for a few weeks now. since then, i’ve just stopped paying attention.
so since the service has become less valuable and useful to me, i’m just going to stop using it and throw those micro posts on my blog. so now i’ll have my posts on my blog, and a lot of them will probably be more like quick messages talking about what i’m up to. the reason why i’m doing this is that i want to keep some timeline of the stuff i’m up to. i’ve never really cared about posting big, thought provoking messages - i just want to write about stuff that i’m into and upto.
my brother dave recently told me “i don’t even know why i still read your blog”. that comment stems from him buying four tickets to a wilco show for himself and friends while living in seattle many years back. i guess they didn’t like the show, and my music credibility slid down to him.
which leads me to…this is my blog. the url is jeffjudge.com/thoughts. they’re my thoughts. my intention is to start posting a lot more thoughts :) so if you want to keep tabs on me, cool. otherwise, cool.
