looking for a good hardtail

I’d like to start hitting the trails close by (Kettle Morain, Palos Hills). It would be fun to some exercise where I’m more connected to the outdoors, and each trail is less than 90 minutes away. I’d like to spend less than $600, with a solid frame that is lightweight, and a component set that gives me a lot of upgrade flexibility.

Any recommendations? Anyone have a friend who is an expert with mountain bikes?

Hey- my David is big into mountain biking and he has an REI brand that he really likes that was in about that price range. I can ask him for details or give you his email if you like

Considering you are soon to be a father, I would suggest taking that $600 and starting a college fund. Then when you do have time to hit the trails - which I would say would be somewhere around 2019 - you can buy yourself one of those fancy floating bikes - which you'll need since Lake Michigan will be at your doorstep. Note to self: invent a floating bike.

i know who you are. thanks for blowing off the house party a few weeks back. the whole team missed you. you're real team.

college fund...already covered. we took the proceeds from the sale of our condo and put it into a 529b. we're still going to be broke from what i've been reading.

so help me find a bike and let's head up to to kettle moraine old man.
